Public Works

Parkland County Public Works is responsible for maintaining the roadways, facilities and utilities within Parkland County. This includes road bans, snow clearing, gravelling, landfills and water and sewer services. Services are delivered from Public Works buildings in Stony Plain and Tomahawk.

Public Works provides the following services:

Road Maintenance

  • Roadway surface maintenance including grading, snow plowing, and winter sanding.
  • Mowing grass in County right-of-ways.
  • Repairs to roadway pavements and asphalt stabilized surface treatments.
  • Line painting on paved roadways.
  • Regravelling of existing gravelled roads.
  • Application of Dust Control Treatments.
  • Installation of signs, barriers, and other traffic control and/or protection devices.
  • Roadside brush control (mechanical).
  • Implementation and monitoring of roadway controls such as weight restrictions and road use agreements.
  • Maintain signs and sign inventory.
Fleet & Facilities
  • Operation and maintenance of central equipment repair shop in Stony Plain for repair and maintenance of all municipal maintenance and construction equipment.
  • Operation and maintenance of sites and buildings for maintenance service centres to provide for storage and handling of materials and equipment and centralized working areas for maintenance staff.
  • Operation and maintenance of County Centre building.
  • Carry out technical investigations, reports, and/or make recommendations regarding specific operating or maintenance functions relating to any municipal facility.
Water and Waste Water Management

    Water Treatment and Water Distribution

  • Provide Alberta Environment certified Operators for the operation, maintenance and repair of municipally owned water treatment plants, pump houses and water distribution systems
  • Ensure that potable water meets both provincial and federal guidelines
  • Provide water meter installation, repair and reading services
  • Inspect service connections to municipal infrastructure
  • Invoicing and revenue collection for utility accounts
  • Provide 24/7 emergency coverage for County water treatment and distribution facilities

    Wastewater Collection and Wastewater Treatment

  • Provide Alberta Environment certified Operators for the operation, maintenance and repair of municipally owned wastewater treatment facilities and wastewater collection systems
  • Ensure that wastewater effluent meets provincial guidelines
  • Inspect service connections to municipal infrastructure
  • Invoicing and revenue collection for utility accounts
  • Provide 24/7 emergency coverage for County wastewater treatment and wastewater collection infrastructure
Solid Waste Management
 
Parkland County operates several self haul waste management facilities throughout the County.

Solid Waste Transfer Stations
  • Parkland County Waste Transfer and Recycling Centre, located on RR 11 south of Highway 16A. The Site is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00am - 4:45pm. On Thursday's from the months of May to August the site is opened until 7:45pm.
  • Kapasiwin Transfer Station, located on RR 35 North of Highway 16.
  • Moonlake Transfer Station, located on RR 73 and Twp 523.
  • Tomahawk, Located on SH 759, South of the Hamlet of Tomahawk
  • Keephills, located on RR 34, south of SH 627 on Twp 513
  • Seba Beach, located on RR 61, South of Highway 16
