Municipal Addressing System
The Municipal Addressing System within Parkland County was established in 1994 with the objective of providing a municipal address to each land parcel, business or residence in Parkland County. The system provides the means by which Police, Fire and Ambulance can find every address in Parkland County. The Addressing System also provides a mailing address for those areas of the County in which Canada Post has adopted the Rural Address as a mailing address.

Posting Your Municipal Address
Posting your Municipal Address at your driveway will help Emergency Personal find you. Every day the Ambulance Services, Fire Services, Parkland Patrol, and RCMP Personnel must respond to all kinds of 9-1-1 emergency calls in Parkland County. In each of these situations there is a threat to life, health, or property -- and every minute counts.
Parkland emergency crews must cover an area of 2,500 square kilometers from Edmonton to the Pembina River. In order to provide the best possible emergency service to the residents in this area, we have had signs placed at the entrance to each country residential subdivision. The County is using a computer-based emergency map system that helps direct emergency vehicles to the proper general location. Upon arrival, they need to find the correct house number without delay.
That's where we need your help: Post your municipal address clearly (this is not your legal description) from the road. It's so important, in fact, that Parkland County Council passed a By-law on July 8, 1996, strongly encouraging residents to post their municipal address and requiring addresses to be posted in all new developments and subdivisions.
You will provide for your own safety and well-being --and that of your family--by posting your address and making it easy for emergency crews to find your house.
The By-law states:
- Signs must be in an obvious place next to the driveway at the property line, or on the mail box.
- The two or three digit house number (lot address) is to be placed in country residential subdivisions. All other locations must post the four to five digit reference number or complete address.
- Lettering must be at least 150mm (6") in height in country residential subdivisions and 100mm (4") in all other areas. The signs will be easier to read if the letters contrast with the background color. Therefore, By-law 4-96 states that white reflectorized letters should be placed on a medium green background.
- Assigned addresses should be posted on all occupied parcels of land in Parkland and are required for all new developments or subdivisions. You don't require your name on the sign, just the address. In country residential subdivisions, the house number must be posted and visible from the subdivision roadway
Remember: Emergency Crews may need to read the signs at night or in poor weather conditions.

Installation Guidelines
- Where practical signs should be installed 1' inside property line at a 450 to 900 angle to the driveway.
- If possible, signs should be on the right hand side of the driveway as entering the property, and far enough away from the road shoulder to minimize conflict with snow removal equipment and wide vehicles. Where terrain is suitable approximately 6' of separation from sign to driveway shoulder is adequate.
- The signs should be a minimum of 3' above natural ground level in a location which is conspicuous from the traveled roadway.
- CAUTION should be exercised with any underground installations to avoid contact with underground utilities. For assistance regarding this matter, contact Alberta One-Call at 1-800-242-3447.
