Transportation
Highways
There are six major highways running through Parkland County, including Highway 16 (also known as the Yellowhead Highway), which runs east-west and is part of Canada’s coast-to-coast highway system.
Parkland County is also well connected to the CANAMEX Corridor, which has grown to become the cornerstone for the seamless and efficient transportation of goods, services, people and information between Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Other major highways within Parkland County include:
- Highway 16A
- Highway 22
- Highway 43
- Highway 44
- Highway 60 (Edmonton bypass route, currently being considered as a high-load corridor)
Those in Parkland County also have easy access to the Edmonton ring road known as Anthony Henday Drive (Highway 216). When complete, this freeway will be 27 kilometres of six- and eight-lane divided roadway that will provide easy access between the major highways – 2, 16 and 14 – around Edmonton.
Air Transport
Located just 15 minutes from the southeast corner of Parkland County, the Edmonton International Airport is served by several major airlines. In addition to providing 24-hour cargo services, this busy airport also offers first-rate passenger services.
The Edmonton City Centre Airport is just a 20-minute drive from the east side of the county, and is the nearest commercial and airfreight service that handles municipal flights.
Also nearby is the Villeneuve Airport, which provides charter and recreational flight services, and is located only 10 minutes northeast of Parkland County.

Rail Transport
Two railway companies provide Alberta with east-west transcontinental service. Spur lines are readily available in Acheson off CN’s main line.
The CN McBain Intermodal Terminal, located to Parkland County’s east border and only five minutes from Acheson, ensures competitive and environmentally-friendly intermodal gateways for regional shippers. CN’s Walker Yard, located 20 minutes from Parkland County’s eastern border, offers extensive flat switching to ensure timely delivery from various Alberta origins to world markets.
Bus and Other Transport
Greyhound bus services are available at various points throughout Parkland County to transport passengers as well as cargo. Greyhound’s nationwide network offers a cost-effective, same-day delivery service 24 hours a day.
