Tentative Internship Calendar

Parkland County believes that an Intern should be the primary controller of their own schedule. This means that Parkland County allows you to choose which activities and events are the best for you to commit your budget dollars to. Some events, like those organized by municipal affairs will be mandatory. Fellow staff members and your fellow interns are always willing to make recommendations to help you decide which events you would like to attend.

Some potential events for 2010 include:

• Intern Orientation hosted by Municipal Affairs, Edmonton (June)
• Intern Executive Week hosted by Municipal Affairs, Edmonton (October)
• Intern Transition Week hosted by Municipal Affairs, Edmonton (end of year one)
• Alberta Urban Municipalities Association Convention, Calgary (November)
• Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties Convention, Edmonton (March and November)
• Alberta Development Officers Association Conference (September)
• Alberta Association Canadian Institute of Planners Conference, Lake Louise (October 18-20)
• Canadian Institute of Planners Conference, Montreal (October 2-5)
• Community Planning Association of Alberta Conference, Red Deer (April 12-14)
  

During 2010 the Planning and Development Services Department will be undertaking several activities. Some activities the Intern may participate in or observe are:

• Ongoing work with the Acheson Industrial Area Structure Plan
• Interaction with the Capital Region Board which may require updating our Municipal Development Plan and several Area Structure Plans
• Consultation with TransAlta in anticipation of Keephills 3 opening
• Full Policies and Procedures review
• Implementation of our GIS system
• And much more
